The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the shortlists in 10 categories for the 97th Academy Awards®. The categories include Documentary Feature Film, Documentary Short Film, International Feature Film, Makeup and Hairstyling, Music (Original Score), Music (Original Song), Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film, Sound, and Visual Effects.
Documentary Short Film
From a pool of 104 qualified entries, 15 films have advanced in the Documentary Short Film category. Members of the Documentary Branch voted to determine the shortlist and will cast their votes to decide the final nominees.
The shortlisted films are:

- “Death by Numbers”
- “Eternal Father”
- “I Am Ready, Warden”
- “Incident”
- “Instruments of a Beating Heart”
- “Keeper”
- “Makayla’s Voice: A Letter to the World”
- “Once upon a Time in Ukraine”
- “The Only Girl in the Orchestra”
- “Planetwalker”
- “The Quilters”
- “Seat 31: Zooey Zephyr”
- “A Swim Lesson”
- “Until He’s Back”
Animated Short Film
In the Animated Short Film category, 15 films have been shortlisted from 88 qualified entries. Academy members from the Animation Branch and Short Films Branch participated in the preliminary voting round, meeting the required minimum viewing criteria.
For the nominations round, members from these branches are invited to opt in and must view all 15 shortlisted films to cast their votes.
The shortlisted films are:

Live Action Short Film
From 180 qualified films, 15 have advanced in the Live Action Short Film category. Academy members from all branches were invited to participate in the preliminary voting round, provided they met the minimum viewing requirements.
In the nominations round, members from all branches can opt in and are required to view all 15 shortlisted films to vote.

The 97th Academy Awards ceremony will be held at the Dolby® Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. The event will be televised live on ABC and streamed live on Hulu. It will also air live in more than 200 territories worldwide.
