Australian audio company RØDE is coming back with My RØDE Reel Short Film Competition for its sixth edition. This time with over $1,000,000 worth of prizes. The judges this year are short filmmaker and Film Riot creator Ryan Connolly, Beyond The Trailer creator Grace Randolph, and YouTuber and 2015 My RØDE Reel winner Dan Mace.
RØDE came into being in 1990 under Freedman Electronics and has since established itself as a leading industry voice. My RØDE Reel receives over 14,000 films from 94 countries. When it began in 2014, that number was 1100.
There is no fee to enter the competition, but rules stipulate that at least one RØDE product must be have been used in the making of the film. The rules for the competition are simple: Make a short film under 3 minutes (but no less than 60 seconds) using RØDE gear, film Behind-the-scenes footage and upload both on their website. Both must also begin and end with the official My RØDE Reel 2019 Title Card. The starter pack for entrants include essentials like templates for scripting.
Besides the many categories, the latest addition to the list is Best Trailer Award where you can enter a trailer of your own creation (not exceeding 3 minutes). Prizes include scholarships to Full Sail University and packs of filmmaking gear and software by RØDE, Movcam, Blackmagic Design, Blastwave FX, Zhiyun, FuzzMeasure, etc. The winners for best trailer will be announced on 26 September. Entries are also judged under best Chinese, Indian, Korean and Japanese films. There are also prizes in the technical categories.
Winners announcement begins on 25 September and judges’ prize is to be announced on 4 October. Entry for the My RØDE Reel 2019 short film competition ends at 12:00pm on August 28, 2019 Australian Eastern Standard Time.
