Program provides up to $150,000 to support up-and-coming filmmakers and drive a new generation of talent.

Vimeo, renowned for its innovative video platform for creators and enterprises, has announced the launch of the first-ever “Vimeo Short Film Grant presented by Nikon | RED.” This pioneering initiative aims to empower emerging filmmakers by providing significant funding, mentorship, and advanced equipment to bring their creative visions to life.

Details of the Grant

The grant program will award five filmmakers with $30,000 each, totaling $150,000 in funding. These funds will support the production of short films with the additional benefit of one-on-one mentorship from industry experts and the Vimeo Curation Team. The grant package also includes:

  • Professional Equipment: Access to the latest Z CINEMA line, featuring V-RAPTOR [X] and KOMODO-X cinema cameras with Z mount options, and Nikon’s mirrorless cameras, including the Z9, Z8, and Z6III. This equipment ensures that the films produced will meet the highest technical standards.
  • Vimeo Subscription and Distribution Support: Each recipient will receive a Vimeo Standard subscription and dedicated promotion at in-person screenings in New York City and Los Angeles hosted by Vimeo.

Prestigious Jury and Selection Criteria

Winners will be chosen by a distinguished jury consisting of Vimeo Staff Picks alumni and celebrated filmmakers such as David Lowery, Charlotte Wells, Sean Wang, Savanah Leaf, and cinematographer Adam Bricker, ASC. The selection criteria will focus on:

  • Originality
  • Artistic merit
  • Feasibility of project execution

Submission Details

Submissions for the “Vimeo Short Film Grant presented by Nikon | RED” will open on March 10, 2025. Winners will be notified by July 7, with projects commencing by July 2025.
