It’s that time of year again! The Short Of The Year (SOTY) Awards are coming up, and we’re excited to make the 2022-ed announcement. This year was a great run, with some amazing shorts that gave our writers refreshing time simply reviewing them. SOTY 2022 comes with slight changes and upgradations compared to the previous years, so, keep reading to know more.
After 2 successful runs, we are excited to announce the next season that will recognize deserving shots from across the world. This year we will consider short films we reviewed from December 2021 to November 2022.
We are changing how the Short Of The Year Awards website is structured. For 2020 & 2021, we followed a dedicated sub-directory website structure. That is, based on the year, a new sub-page was created. For 2020 we had https://www.shortoftheyear.com/2020, and for 2021 we had https://www.shortoftheyear.com/2021. This structure helped us preserve the website each year. We are moving away from this structure and will focus on the main domain https://www.shortoftheyear.com to give our audience a unified experience across the site.
From December 2021 to November 2022, we published a total of 182 films. Like the previous years, all these films will automatically be considered to compete in the following eligible categories except for the Audience Choice Awards.
- Best Short Film (Short of the Year)
- Best Documentary
- Best Direction
- Best Cinematography
- Best Editing
- Best Music
- Best Screenplay
- Best Poster
Similar to the previous year’s Audience Choice Awards, this year too, it will be an opt-in only, and the films that opt-in to compete in this category must be public. That is, films that are password-protected, private, behind a paywall, etc., cannot opt-in for SOTY 2022 Audience Choice Awards. The Audience Choice Awards winners are decided based on the number of votes a film gets during the voting period.
If you are the creator of one of the 182 films we reviewed from December 2021 to November 2022, you can submit your film for the Audience Choice Awards here. Please make sure you upload your film on YouTube and share the link, as the System we use doesn’t support Vimeo or other links yet (my apologies for that!). You can upload the film on YouTube and keep it unlisted.
Audience Choice Awards submission closes on 5th December 2022, and voting begins on 6th December 2022. Voting will close on 25th December 2022. One of the voters is set to win a $100 Amazon gift card.
Nominees of the awards will be announced on 20th December 2022, followed by the Winner announcement on 31st December 2022.
